50 yo malay lady. Presented > 18 mths ago to St Elsewhere with bilateral
hydronephrosis. No other illness of note but frankly obese.
Decided on further treatment at private hospital and seen another St. Elsewhere by
competent Urologist. Dealt with bilateral ureteric stricture and bilateral renal and
ureteric calculi.
Problem- encrustation and stone formation occurs within 3 weeks of stenting. Happened to
Urologist 3 times and each time met with same ureteric strictures that were easily dilated
with the Ureteroscope.
Saw me for the past 6 months and I have encountered the same problem.
Balloon Dilatation of soft strictures (2 discrete ones on the R and a longish one on the
L-at the level of the SI joint)followed by stenting leads to stone formation within 2
weeks. Tried period of no stenting but strictures recur within 2 months and patient
becomes symptomatic with pain.
All blood tests have been normal including workup for TB. CT scan elsewhere reported to be
normal. Long term antibiotics have no effect. 3 ureteric biopsies have only revealed some
? squamous tissue.
